This week we have VE Day on Friday. Have a look at the information power point and see if you can find some of you own information about it too.

Can you create a double page spread, a factfile, an information poster or a powerpoint of your own about VE Day?

Remember to read through what you have written to check it makes sense and check your punctuation too. Have you made the best word choices? You might be able to upskill it.

Perhaps you could write a diary entry as though you were there, 75 years ago when VE Day happened.

Here are some different writing tasks for you to have a go at. Lots of year 5 said they enjoyed getting stuck into these while home learning. Here are a selection for you to try.

Try to think about the punctuation you will need, try to include fronted adverbials and make good word choices. Check the descriptions of each task really carefully to see what you will need.

Challenge: when you complete your writing tasks see if you can use at least two words from the lists!

Maths

I appreciate how tricky it is to support your children with new concepts in Maths, so there are different options available. If you can, log onto White Rose for maths, it will guide you through the current Y5 maths topic which is decimals and if your child feels confident to watch the White Rose videos and have a go at the new topics in Maths, that's great.

This week you will need to work on adding and subtracting with decimals. Remember to check your place value because this is very important.

If you are unsure about going through these new maths skills, you can always log onto TT Rockstars to upskill your multiplication knowledge or log onto BBC Bitesize to try their online learning.

Our exciting Cornerstones topic for this term is Allotment!

For our new topic: Allotment, could you find out which plants we could grow for food? Which parts of those plants do we eat? Which seasons are best to grow them? Do they need special conditions to grow in? Are they available all year round?

For RE this week, have a look at the story: The Road to Emmaus.

When you have read it, have a go at retelling the story through a storyboard or through photographs of freeze frames, or by drawing a few scenes. Then add some speech bubbles and thought captions to really explain the story and how the people may have thought and felt.
